Job Summary:To serve as main liaison between dermatopathology laboratory and clinics and ensuring client satisfaction. The Manger, Clinical Laboratory Services is responsible for increasing lab efficiency/productivity and workload, human resource management, organization of department workload, and fiscal accountability/productivity.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:To coach and to lead the technical and non-technical laboratory staff.To perform managerial and technical duties in accordance with all applicable policies and procedures.To be aware of and strictly comply with all OSHA (safety) and CLIA/CAP (lab certification and registration) and HIPAA (patient confidentiality) regulations in the performance of all aspects of the position.To oversee the duties of the histopathology supervisor and business office supervisor including:To perform administrative duties for the department.To oversee slide delivery process for dermatopathologists examination.To oversee process of receiving and logging specimens in to the laboratory information system.To oversee required and regulated maintenance of all equipment as required by CLIA and other regulating agencies on the equipmentTo courteously, professionally and in a timely manner, respond to routine laboratory inquiries both internal and external, whether in writing, in person or over the phone.To ensure staff is continually updating the laboratory manuals by staying abreast of new product/chemical and other new laboratory information and ensuring all updates are made in the manual and communicated appropriately.Responsible for the documentation generation and review of corrective actions when test systems deviate from the laboratory s established performance specifications.Maintain stringent standards for quality, identifying any issues which might adversely impact the quality of test results and/or employee safety, and immediately communicating these to senior management as necessary for prompt resolution.Participate in monitoring quality control testing results, monitoring quality assurance performance metrics, quality improvement processes planning, validation, and implementation of new test procedures, staffing and scheduling, leadership and supervision of laboratory personnel, and consistently achieving turnaround time targets.Responsible for high-level relationship management with clinics. Strategically focused and responsible for clinic satisfaction, maintaining clinic communication, and the overall management of the clinic relationship.Works to grow the clinic relationship by identifying new business opportunities.Drives team to execute on contract terms and conditions and works with the delivery managers to ensure on-time delivery of projects that support the business. Generally has profit and loss responsibilities.To participate in continuing education through required meeting attendance, including in-service meetings and educational programs.To contribute to a fair and positive work environment by treating patients, peers, superiors, subordinates, vendors and all others with professionalism and respect.Manage staff performance including writing, reviewing and conducting staff performance and competency reviews.Collaborate with lab director, senior director of field operations, staff dermatologists and dermatopathologists, physicians and mid-level providers, senior management, IT, and other functional areas and cross functional teams to address process and workflow issues as assigned.Assist in the recruitment process, interviewing, hiring, and training of personnel.Counseling and disciplining of staff in concordance with HR policies up to and including termination of personnel.Collaborate with Lab Medical Director on marketing and educational material for clinics.Represent the dermatopathologist s lab marketing interestsTrack testing units within company and in laboratory.To perform other duties as assigned.
Job Specifications:Minimum of five (5) years operations experience required.Previous management, leadership, and marketing experience required.Experience in the following areas; Pathology, Histology, Hematology, CLIAAssociate or Bachelor s Degree preferred.Requires advanced knowledge of medical terminology and standard diagnostic laboratory protocols.Computer skills in Outlook, Word and ExcelRequires ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.Requires ability to communicate clearly in person, on the phone, and in writing and establish/maintain cooperative relationships with physicians, staff and other customers.Requires ability to maintain confidentiality in strict adherence to HIPAA patient confidentiality regulations.Requires ability to interact in a consistently professional and courteous manner with co-workers, patients, physicians and all others with whom contact occurs in the workplace.
