The primary goal for the Charge Nurse/Board Runner isefficient operating room coordination to insure prompt, safe, effectivethroughput of surgical patient.Thisposition is responsible for the daily management and coordination of operatingroom assignments, ensuring proper staff skill mix and equipmentcoordination.Works with the anesthesiadepartment to ensure appropriate staffing is available for schedule changesthroughout the day.Coordinates the careof the surgical patient with ancillary departments, such as PACU, inpatientunits, Radiology, Lab, or Cath Lab.Works closely with the scheduling department to coordinate the surgeryschedule for the following business day.Serves as the central contact person for surgeons, anesthesia, surgerystaff and associates in the department.Able to demonstrate organizational, interpersonal, and time managementskills.Responsible for efficient andeffective patient care and quality improvement.Helps in determining goals and effectivelymanages resources to achieve the goals.Provides immediate mentoring/coaching to teammates as needed.Maintains a collegial relationship withphysicians to ensure quality patient care.Participates in the development and growth of safety culture in theSurgery Department.Other unitresponsibilities may include participation in performance improvement, clinicaleducation, staff counseling and coaching, providing input for employeeevaluations and quarterly charge nurse meetings.Performs all the duties required of an ORstaff nurse.Reports directly to theClinical Coordinator/OR manager and Director of Perioperative Services.
Work requires knowledge, experience and skills in whichmanagerial, teaching and strong, collaborative communication abilities havebeen demonstrated in order to effectively manage care of the surgical patient,unit operations, staff assignments, and care appropriate to the age of thepatients served in the surgery department, for efficient throughput. Has atleast three years operating room experience and proven leadership ability.Speaks, reads and writes English.
Three years in an OR staff position
Past Charge Nurse or management positionexperience preferred
Current CA RN licensure
American Heart Association BLS
American Heart Association ACLS preferred
